TITLE: Programming & Outreach Manager
REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer
SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to manage Greater Mankato Area United Way’s programs (including Books for Kids and schoolbook deliveries), volunteers, and community outreach activities. Possesses Greater Mankato Area United Way’s core values of Integrity, Commitment, Collaboration, and Accountability.
HOURS: 40 hours per week. Includes occasional evenings and weekends. This position is located in-person in Mankato, Minnesota.

health, and education to ensure our region stays strong and balanced. Our programs are thoroughly vetted by community-led impact teams and serve more than 65,000 people each year. Supported by over 1,900 annual volunteers, we convene and connect the community to build a better tomorrow for all.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Manage literacy programs
Manage and develop Greater Mankato Area United Way’s literacy programs, which currently include: Books for Kids; Kindness Booth Book Initiative for first graders; Fourth-Grade Book Project; and Community Bookshelf Initiative
Coordinate scheduling and communications
Manage and maintain any associated data and contacts, ensuring they are updated and accurate
Manage program budgets
Manage and lead volunteers supporting the program activities
Create associated materials, such as the Books for Kids newsletter
Manage book and supply orders, including ordering book samples and reviewing content
Manage inventory, tracking books, letterhead, envelopes, and other supplies
Lead mailings and delivery processes, including classroom presentations
Coordinate with supporters, volunteers, movers, in-kind donors, and other stakeholders involved in the program’s execution
Assist in fundraising efforts for monetary and in-kind program support
Expand the reach of the programs to serve more children in our region by connecting with new contacts, resources, and prospective participants
Seek new ways to raise awareness about the programs
Coordinate annual Reading Festival
Manage organization’s volunteers
Recruit, train, and support volunteers for the organization, including general, events, initiatives, and any needs that arise
Work closely with events, marketing, and other staff to determine volunteer needs
Supervise all volunteers
Track volunteers and hours
Seek out and contact new volunteer prospects and continually update contact lists
Maintain and update master volunteer contact list
Create regular volunteer update emails with upcoming opportunities
Manage Get Connected online volunteer platform
Work with Community Impact to communicate about Get Connected and volunteer needs to prospective volunteers, agency partners, and other stakeholders
Collaborate with staff such as Resource & Donor Development to seek new corporate volunteer prospects
Lead the annual Week/Month of Action, matching volunteers to nonprofit needs
Manage community outreach activities
Build and maintain relationships with community members, schools, local agencies, and other stakeholders
Represent United Way at various community events, expos, fairs, and outreach activities
Coordinate logistics for community outreach activities, including supplies, pickups/deliveries, and transportation
Lead and develop new outreach activities as relevant (such as donation distributions)
Work with Events & Fundraising Director to coordinate supplies, scheduling, and deliveries for events such as Men’s Event, Human Foosball, Fire & Ice, and more

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required. Experience with program or project coordination
required. Must be highly detail-oriented, multitasking, organized, willing to learn, and passionate about
helping others. Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of community members, businesses, nonprofits, volunteers, donors, and other stakeholders.
